Kim Shafer

Photo of Kim Shafer

Creative Director

A recent escapee from the New York agency world, Kim has added some shine to a bevy of big-name brands including Tumi, Sprint, Heineken, Vicks, Ann Taylor, UBS and Mountain Dew.

She is responsible for the global Vicks brand mnemonic, re-branding Tumi as a lifestyle brand, the brand look and feel for Sprint (pre-Nextel) and helped with the launch of Grameen America.

Originally a copywriter in Dallas and Atlanta agencies, Kim defected to the design and art direction side after coming to terms with the jealousy she had of her art director partners. Back to school she went. Two years and 469 gallons of coffee later, she was playing Wiffle Ball in the halls of midtown Manhattan ad agencies such as Publicis, DMB&B and SpikeDDB. After nearly a decade in the Big Apple, she got her fill and found her way back home to the midwest where she was an ACD at Saatchi & Saatchi X until joining Tangible Worldwide as Creative Director.

Disclaimer: It’s a well-documented fact that Kim has an uncanny knack for running into people all over this small world. It’s insane. And a little weird. Consider yourself warned.

Birthday: November 12th

Mac or PC: Mac

Brand loyalties: Apple, Adidas, Coke, West Elm, VW, Tano

Can't live without: Diet Coke, toothpaste, natural lighting, friends, Cmd Z

Animal that most resembles your alter ego: according to my boyfriend, parakeet

Wii, Playstation or XBox: Wii. And I have an old school NES at home.

If you could be anywhere right now: Playing charades in a foreign country

If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life: sushi or pudding. You're right. That's two things. That's why I don't handle the cash in this place.

15 minutes of fame: I was in a photo behind the cashwrap at Ann Taylor Loft stores summer of 2001

Do you believe in ghosts: I don’t know about ghosts. But spirits, yes.

Shower song: ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Dire Straits

Pet peeves: When people crunch ice. Or their fingernails

Obsessive compulsive about: Having doors, drawers and cabinets closed, having the roll of toilet paper roll over rather than under (I’ve been known to change it at people’s houses), squeezing tubes of toothpaste from the end rather than the middle.

Best vacation: The first time I went to Costa Rica. The only reservation we made was for a Jeep, and we explored the whole country, coast to coast. I made a promise to myself after that to take at least one vacation like that a year. And I've kept it.

Sports: Tennis, bike riding.

Instruments: iPod

First concert: The Beach Boys and Chicago

Band of the moment: The National
